Here is my video for the contest:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n7j_8XdV ... r_embedded I tried to get it embedded into the forum, but it didn't work.
I decided to give you the whole story. Just incase you want to verify any of it, check out
http://gayguidetoronto.com/acid-reflux/ and my personal blog
http://www.acidrefluxweb.comMy friend Shaun Proulx, of Shaun Proulx Media has the aboved linked website GayGuideToronto.Com (I am a blogger on his site), as well as
http://shaunproulx.ca/himbo/ and has his own show, The Shaun Proux Show with Proud FM (
http://www.proudfm.com/afternoon_drive.php, and Out TV
http://www.outtv.ca/shaunproulxshow.php . Shaun and I have been longtime friends and I'm often on his show to talk about HIV related work I've been doing, and the way I work with humour. Both Shaun and are located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
As soon as I got the idea for this, and I know how much Kathy loves promotion, I asked Shaun if he'd be a part of this. For this entry, I came back and in between being live and quickly rehot his role in my entry. I aslo re-shot the SADS light bit.
I really debated sharing my entire story, but what the hell. I think it has meaning to it.
My entry for the "Kathy Griffin Youtube Contest" After missing the deadline for Kathy Griffin's "She'll Cut A Bitch" free DVD, I was very disappointed. Here is the link to the original:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=luHKR27VD78 All was not lost with this rework entry to her new fabulous contest to win tickets to PrideFest and a meet and greet, I knew that I could dream again of actually meeting her, which you have to admit is a lot better than a free DVD.
Consider this video contest entry to be very green, it's recycled leaving a very small carbon footprint.
Often I've been asked, "What is up with you and Kathy Griffin?"
So here's the story. I've been an out HIV positive activist for over twenty years now. Since it seems like I'm actually going to grow old, I need something new to focus on, and hey why not Kathy?
The real truth is that I was stealing her shtick long before I really knew her comedy and consequently fell in love with Kathy's brand of humour and the art of self-promotion.
In the world of AIDS activism there is, believe it or not, a star system. Yes, I know, an AIDS celebrity, it's kind of like an oxymoron.
On World AIDS Day, and whilst my colleagues are tending to their national press interviews for the occasion, I was busy doing interviews for "24 Hour News" You know that little news rag you read on the subway on the way to work.
That was me!
Then I was off to do my interview for a day time public access show on Rogers Cable tv here in Toronto.
I've done a lot of things in my life, public access has never been one of them.
Once finished, I called my friend who had arranged this, and said, "George, I just finished doing public access....public access. You know what this means? This officially means I'm the Kathy Griffin of the AIDS world?."
It's bad enough to catch this pesky thing, but to be d-list too? I felt a certain kinship. Then when I actually got to see "My Life on the D-List" and Kathy went to Mexico and ripped Oprah off by building her school in Mexico on 99 dollars or whatever, I knew it was ok to temporally re-title my blog "My life on the AIDS D-list"
Wait, there's more.
Three years ago, while taking a break from snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef, I bumped into an American woman. Barb, I'll call her, began telling me of how she and her son were on a trip sponsored by the Make A Wish Foundation.
I gulped. Her son had testicular cancer at the age of 17. Before I could react Barb touched my arm and said, "It's ok, he's in remission."
That's when I turned to my friend and said, "When do I get my wish?"
Yes it's a sad story, but he survived, lost his left nut, and got a free trip to Australia.
My viral infection is older than he was. I've successfully managed pull off living with HIV for about 25 years. That oughta count for something. True story: Blog Post
http://acidrefluxweb.com/?p=984That's when I decided that my wish was to one day meet Kathy Griffin. I started a Facebook group, flew off to see her in New York.
I fell in love with her F&#K YOU attitude and is simply being herself, a quality that I admire as I stick my neck out on the line all the time simply "just being myself."
You might as well save yourself a lot of heartache by chosing me the winner because I'm going to keep video stalking you until it finally happens.
So Kathy what do you say?
