Part of the site's volunteer staff, Kate (aka featmom) is one of the moderators that keeps Kathy's internet forums operational. A great and appreciated friend of the site.Where are you from?
I was born and raised in San Jose, CA. When I turned 18 I met my future husband and we were married two years later. We moved to the Sacramento, CA area in 1990 so we could afford to buy a house. I opened my own home-based daycare center which I ran successfully for 15 years. During that time we were blessed with the birth of our two son's, now ages 9 and 13. Six years ago we were stunned by both boys being diagnosed with high-functioning autism. I was forced to give up my daycare two years ago so I could devote my time and energy to helping my boys. I have become a volunteer autism parent mentor and advocate in the Sacramento area. I also volunteer as the secretary for our school district's special education community advisory committee.
How long have you been a fan of Kathy Griffin?
I can't remember when I first discovered Kathy Griffin. We watched Suddenly Susan and I was already aware of who she was as a comedienne. I've watched all of her televised stand-up shows and she is a wishlist in my TIVO. I love My Life on the D-List and have watched it from the beginning. Kathy is the funniest person I have ever seen. I first saw her live show in Stockton, CA in December (well, it was supposed to be in November) of 2006 and was lucky enough to get great tickets to attend the live Bravo taping of Kathy's stand-up show in January 2007. It was a great show and I laughed the entire time. I can't wait for it to air in June of 2007.
What other comedians do you like?
My favorite comedienne when I was a child was Carol Burnett. I also loved Mel Brooks movies especially if Madeline Kahn was in them. As an adult I love Eddie Murphy, Ellen Degeneres, Rosie O'Donnell, Lisa Lampanelli and Louis C.K. They all have me in stitches, but I have to admit that Kathy is my favorite stand-up comedienne. She rocks!
How and when did you become a Moderator?
I became a moderator in November 2006. When I joined the KG Boards in May 2006, I was more of a lurker and since this was only the second online forum I had ever belonged to, I had to learn how to navigate it, post pictures, edit posts and type my conversations. After a while I started sending any spam I saw on the site to the moderators. Since I live on the West Coast I can rid the site of junk on a different time zone, which offers us more opportunity to keep Kathy's site clean!
What do you like most about your job as a Moderator?
I love keeping Kathy's site clean and happy. It's such a nice distraction from my everyday life and I get to laugh all the time with my friends on the board and with Kathy. I love it when she stops in to say hi. The best part about the site is that I've met a couple of the members and have become really good friends with some of the regular posters. I never expected real friendships to develop online.
What other things do you like to do outside of the KG Forum?
Other than the volunteering I do, my family and I really enjoy camping. We camp a few times a year in the California mountain regions. We also love Disneyland and try to visit as often as possible. The ocean is my favorite place and I miss it now that we live in the valley.
What is your favorite Kathy moment?
Kathy's live shows are hysterical. I've never laughed so hard in my life. She brings you in to her world and it's both interesting and funny. My favorite part of her t.v. comedy is when she interviews celebrities on the red carpet. My favorite stand-up moment is when she does an imitation of her mom's swearing. She's just the best!
