Where in the world is Joey?
I was born and raised in Scranton, PA. In my mid-teens, I would skip school and take a bus to NYC with my best friend. That's where I would buy all my great music from. I knew one day I wanted to live in Manhattan. However, my first move out of my parents house was to Sacramento, CA. A friend of mine lived out there - someone I was pen-pals with. All I did was work long hours out there. I ended up moving back to the East Coast, and in 1998 I finally just picked up and moved to NYC, with the help of a friend. After 7 years, I now reside right outside of Manhattan. Only an 8 minute bus ride. You can see the city skyline right outside my window, in Weehawken, NJ.
How long have you been a fan of Kathy Griffin?
I've always known about Kathy from different TV shows she would pop up on. It wasn't until Bravo's "The D-list" that I found my love for Kathy. I had NO idea she did standup and was THAT funny. Since then, I've been collecting everything that airs on TV. I try and go to any of the East Coast shows while she's on tour. No one has ever made me laugh as much as Kathy does. The world can use a little sense of humor!
What other comedians do you like?
Growing up, my favorite comedian was Whoopi Goldberg. I remember watching her first HBO special, which is still my favorite show of hers. I also grew up enjoying Paula Poundstone, Judy Tenuta, Ellen, Rosie, George Carlin, Richard Pryor, and Eddie Murphy. My favorite Last Comic Standing comedian is Roz, who I got to meet while on their recent Comedy tour. Also Nikki Payne who is known in Canada, but didn't get far on the show.
How and when did you become a Moderator?
I became a Moderator back in May '06. When I joined the KG Boards in Feb '06, I would alert Matt, who was managing the boards, of Spam and Junk postings. When Will was added to the mix, I not only continued my alerts but had also shown great interest in helping out.
What do you like most about your job as a Moderator?
A couple of things. I love the fact that I can help keep the boards clean and Kathy related. I had belonged to many message boards that have SO much junk on them from not being Moderated. I love the KG boards and never want to see them go down the tubes.
What I love most is the little family a lot of the regulars have become. Great friendships (a couple relationships) have formed. We look out for each other through the good times and the bad times!
What do you like least about your job as a Moderator?
When board members don't get along. Luckily things clear up and we all move on. There are much bigger issues in the real world.
What other things do you like to do outside of the KG Forum?
I'm the Marketing Director/Intenet Sales Manager for the Mazda dealership my "husband" owns. For fun, I love to travel - Disney being my favorite place. I love going to Casinos & amusement parks, roller blading, dancing, comedy shows, and LOVE to eat. In between it all, I manage to get some volunteer work in. Some of the organizations in NYC that I volunteer for are: GLAAD, GMHC, Lamba Legal, & LifeBeat.
What is your favorite Kathy moment?
There's nothing like seeing Kathy LIVE. Her delivery is priceless. I've been to many shows and look forward to many more. Meeting Kathy was exciting too. Off stage, she is very sweet and continues to entertain.
